Canyon Crest Elementary School

Brigham Young University and Provo City School District have agreed to exchange similar-sized properties east of BYU’s main campus. The exchange will facilitate the replacement of the aging Wasatch Elementary School located at 1080 North 900 East and will provide BYU with property adjacent to the university.

The exchange will take place as outlined:

  • The District will build a new elementary school on the vacant 12-acre property currently owned by BYU, which is located about three city blocks east of the current Wasatch Elementary School.
  • Upon completion of the new elementary school, BYU will take possession of the current 10-acre Wasatch Elementary School site.
  • BYU will provide to the District a monetary payment of $1,650,000 in recognition of valuation differences between the two properties.

Construction of the new elementary school, which will maintain the Wasatch Elementary School name, will provide a modern school with improved safety features to educate area students for many decades to come. Relocation of the elementary school will also dramatically improve traffic flows to reduce congestion and contribute to area safety.

Precise timelines and architectural designs are under development for the new elementary school. More information about these and other important developments will be provided as they occur.
