Provo City School District

Canyon Crest Elementary School

In the next few days, we may be facing the first time this school year where there is a legitimate chance that morning weather may impact teachers and students in getting to school on time.

Please remember that different areas of Provo may receive very different impacts of the weather. The decisions made are as an entire district, with the exception of some transportation changes, if the weather so dictates.

The following are our established procedures for determining the impact of weather on travel and start times. This is for you to be aware of. For accurate information when you wake up in the morning, we will post info on our website, Facebook, and Twitter and share with local media. If you see nothing posted, please assume that all is as per normal.

Thanks for your vigilance.

District inclement weather procedure:

8:45 PM the night before a known incoming storm – Kieth (if absent Jason Cox) and Stefanie will determine if we want our designated drivers out the next morning to assess conditions.  this needs to be done by 8:45 PM so we can notify those that are willing to assess before they go to bed for their normal early hour awakening -Stefanie will let Troy and Delaina know, Troy and Delaina will notify the drivers

4:45-5:00 a.m. drivers out if called upon to assess road conditions

5:00-5:15 a.m  Delaina contacts City streets for their assessment

5:10 a.m. Mark contacts Stefanie/Kieth via text or phone with any assessment from his crews on roads and in particular their ability to clear walks and parking lots at schools

5:15 a.m. Delaina and Stefanie communicate about transportation’s assessment

5:20 a.m. Stefanie and Kieth discuss above assessments and make determination of any possible closures or route adjustment needed/recommended

5:30 a.m. Keith/Stefanie communicate decision back to transportation and to Caleb and Jason.   Caleb then takes care of necessary communication to various stakeholders by 5:45 a.m. per 6607P1, Jason handles needs at district front desk
