Many of you may have heard about the SafeUT App that has been highlighted in the news and is currently being used in our secondary schools. This same free app is now available to students...
Dear Canyon Crest Parents,
Second quarter has ended and students should have brought home their report cards. What a great opportunity to praise their accomplishments and set goals for the future! Our students have made significant progress this year, a testament to the dedication of our whole staff here at the school, as well as the hard work of involved parents like you. I am constantly impressed with the extraordinary care that our teachers show to our students and their families. They care about each student and show concern and attention for the needs of each individual.
This week’s parent-teacher conferences are more than just a check-in on how your child is doing. They are a time to connect with your child’s teacher and re-establish a partnership with them. I encourage you to come with questions and a desire to collaborate. Questions to ask might include, “What are my child’s strengths and weaknesses? How do they get along with others? Are they working up to their ability?” Cooperation between home and school is a powerful influence for good. Working together, we can help every child reach their full potential.
Jayme Gandara, Facilitator
Each year, Provo City School District distributes a Stakeholder Survey to all parents, students and employees of the district. Next week, the 2019 survey will be available and distributed. The survey will be emailed to all parents, students and employees, and will also be posted on each school and district website and social media page. Please watch for this survey and take a couple of minutes to complete it. Your feedback is invaluable and greatly appreciated.
The Book Fair will run from February 22 to March 1. On the first day of the fair, the PTA will host Parents with Pastries from 7:30-8:15 am. Any student that comes with an adult will get a free doughnut (no children will be allowed in the book fair during that time unless they have an adult with them). There will also be a Dr. Seuss birthday celebration at the end of the book fair. Also, please mark your calendars for the Color Run. It will be held on Friday, May 3 at 5:30 pm. There will be some great food trucks there, as well. This event is a great way to support our school!
Dr. Johnson would like parents to be aware of the school’s snow procedure policy. Also, a reminder about pets in the school

Second Grade Water Safety Field Trip
Our second graders will visit the Provo Recreation Center this month to learn about safe practices in, on and around water and basic swimming skills. Statistics show that by 2nd grade if a child has not learned how to swim that they most likely will not learn in the future. The first part of the field trip will include a presentation teaching children to be water smart using the American Red Cross W.H.A.L.E. tale curriculum (Water Habits Are Learned Early). There will be land demos and a visit from Zippy, the Parks and Rec Lifeguard mascot. Afterwards children will participate in a free introduction to swim lesson emphasizing bobbing, breath control, kicking, gliding, basic strokes, and survival swim. Thank you Provo Rec Center for this great opportunity for our students!
