Canyon Crest Elementary School

We welcome the following educators who will be joining our Canyon Crest team this school year!  These teachers are instructionally skilled and talented.  They care for students and will be a great value-add to our school.

Norma Filippi – Kindergarten

Norma recently received her BS in Elementary Education at UVU. I was first inspired to teach by my first daughter’s kindergarten teacher, so to be in this position is a dream! I’m excited to get to know the students and help them become a happy new community of learners.

Stephanie Merris – 2nd Grade

Greetings, Canyon Crest family! My name is Stephanie Merris and I am elated to join your amazing school and community this school year as a 2nd grade DLI teacher!

I am from Lancaster, Pennsylvania and came to Utah to attend college at Brigham Young University in 2006. Upon graduating, I was fortunate enough to get a job teaching 1st grade at Sunset View Elementary School, where I taught for 9 years. In August of 2020, I moved back to Pennsylvania to be closer to family. I taught 1st grade for the past two school years there. I missed Provo School district while I was away and feel extremely blessed and honored to have been hired at your school for this upcoming year!

I have heard great things about the familial feel, stellar academic achievements, and immense pride that is ever-present in this wonderful school and community.

In education, fostering strong relationships with students, families and staff is my highest priority. I absolutely adore incorporating joy and humor into learning and implementing music, chants, cheers, etc. into everything the students do in order to promote high engagement and a climate of trust and kindness. Learning is magical!

I look forward to being your partner in your children’s education and empowering them with the confidence and skill sets needed to thrive this school year and beyond. Here’s to a spectacular 2022-23 school year!

Paula Ward – 5th Grade

Is my pleasure saying HOLA to everyone! I couldn’t be more excited to be back with Provo School District and at Canyon Crest Elementary! As you know I had the privilege of working at Canyon Crest before for 10 years and also at Timpanogos Elementary always teaching Dual Immersion in Spanish. I love education because I get to be part of my student’s lives everyday and because I like the challenge to find new and fun ways to help my students learn new concepts and especially the Spanish Language! I am currently doing my masters in Spanish Pedagogy at BYU and I am so grateful! I had missed the genuine dedication and support that the Canyon Crest Community offers for their children and I couldn’t be happier to be part of that support again! Thank you for the appreciation and kindness you had always shown towards me!

Autumn Chilcoat – 5th Grade

Hi my name is Autumn Chilcoat, I currently go to Utah Valley University. Before I became a teacher I was a paraeducator, which is where I fell in love with teaching. I come from a family of educators and I had the opportunity to work with some teachers over ZOOM when we all had to go online and knew I was supposed to go into teaching.  I am so excited to work at Canyon Crest this year because the teachers and community here are so welcoming!

Rodney Egan – 6th Grade

Hi everyone,I’m so very excited to work at Canyon Crest.  The first time I walked into the school I felt a very positive climate for learning.  I love learning new things and being a life-long learner.  My interests include everything about the “outdoors”, singing, acting, running and of course teaching.  I have taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades.  I speak Spanish and enjoy traveling.  I have 5 children, mostly grown. Go Bears Grow!!
