Canyon Crest Community,

Welcome back to another wonderful school year at Canyon Crest Elementary! I hope you and your family have had an enjoyable summer break. As we enter into what I consider the most exciting and electric time of the year, I would like to share the following:

1. First, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our returning families and to those joining us for the first time. We love and care for all our students and are excited for them to come back or start at Canyon Crest! It is sure to be a fantastic school year!
2. This year, we are pulling our theme from the very popular Disney summer film “Inside Out 2!” This box office hit taught us about self-acceptance, that all emotions and feelings are valid, and that it is okay to make mistakes. From this, our motto this school year is: BE THE BEST YOU! We are excited to empower our students with confidence and a growth-mindset. Please share with your children that they will see a lot of Inside Out 2 decorations the first day of school. I am sure this will be exciting to them! And, I hope they will share with me who their favorite Inside Out 2 character is. 🙂
3. Speaking of empowering students, I am thrilled to announce our school’s updated mission and vision statement! For the past 2 years, we have done extensive work to evaluate our school’s mission and vision; identify our core values; and involve multiple stakeholders in updating our mission and vision, including our School Leadership Team, all faculty and staff, parents through a parent focus group, students from every grade level, and Provo City School District Superintendent Dau.

   Canyon Crest’s Mission: Canyon Crest empowers all students to ignite their potential and demonstrate excellence by activating creativity, maintaining resilience, and exemplifying values of ROAR (respect, ownership, attitude, responsibility).

   Canyon Crest’s Vision: Canyon Crest students will have a love of learning; embrace differences and model compassion towards others; and be positive contributors to self, family, local community, and global society.

4. I hope you will join us for our Back to School Event on Monday, August 12. The event is open house style and will start at 4:30pm and end at 6:00pm. This is a great opportunity for your child to see where their new classroom is and meet their teacher(s).

As a reminder, the first day of school for all students, kindergarten through 6th grade, is Tuesday, August 13. Please note that the first week of school is early release every day – Monday through Thursday at 1:30pm and Friday at 1:50pm.
