SCHOOL SPELLING BEE: The school spelling bee will be this Friday, February 23rd starting at 9:00am.   

SAFETY DRILL:  We will be having a Secure Safety Drill this Friday, February 23rd at 1:00pm.

LUNCH LEAGUE: Attention Canyon Crest Community: We are looking for lunchroom volunteers from our community. Lunch League can include guardians, grandparents, teachers, neighbors, friends, aunts, college students, or any trusted adult. You do not need to be a member of PTA to volunteer. JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT:  Junior Achievement is a nonprofit organization that aims to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in their futures. Parent, community, and business volunteers present JA lessons to students to promote financial capability, work and career readiness, and business ownership. In the process, these volunteers serve as role models helping to positively impact young people’s perceptions about the importance of education, as well as critical life skills.

Each grade level has its own curriculum of five to six lessons, each lasting 30-45 minutes. Volunteers typically visit the classroom once per week, although some teachers choose to have the lessons closer together, or even all on the same day. It is also possible to sign up to teach just one lesson, though you may choose to do more.

Junior Achievement provides all lesson materials at no cost to the school, as well as a 30-minute volunteer training. Once all volunteers are signed up and trained, they coordinate directly with the teacher to find dates and times to come into the classroom.

BOOK FAIR: Next week, February 26 – 29 we will be having a Book Fair. Please look for a separate email with more tomorrow.   

AFTER SCHOOL – PRESERVANDO EL ARTE CLASSES  We are pleased to introduce two new after school classes which will both be taught in Spanish.  Literature/Poetry will be Mondays, 3:40-4:40, starting February 26, and Crafts will be Wednesdays, 3:40-4:40, starting February 21.  Both classes are open to 3rd-6th grades.  The classes will only go through the last week of March.   These classes will be taught by volunteers from the new BYU YServe Club-Preservando el Arte.  They have chosen Canyon Crest, since we are a Spanish immersion school, to pilot the program in our district.   Please use the link for more info and to register for the classes. JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT: Junior Achievement es una organización sin ánimo de lucro cuyo objetivo es inspirar y preparar a los jóvenes para que tengan éxito en su futuro. Padres, miembros de la comunidad y empresarios voluntarios imparten lecciones de JA a los estudiantes para fomentar la capacidad financiera, la preparación laboral y profesional y la propiedad de empresas. En el proceso, estos voluntarios actúan como modelos que ayudan a influir positivamente en las percepciones de los jóvenes sobre la importancia de la educación, así como de las habilidades críticas para la vida.

Cada grado tiene su propio plan de estudios de cinco a seis lecciones, cada una de 30 a 45 minutos de duración. Los voluntarios suelen visitar el aula una vez por semana, aunque algunos profesores optan por tener las lecciones más seguidas, o incluso todas el mismo día. También es posible apuntarse para impartir una sola lección, aunque se puede optar por hacer más.

Junior Achievement proporciona todos los materiales de las lecciones sin coste alguno para la escuela, así como una formación de 30 minutos para los voluntarios. Una vez que todos los voluntarios se han inscrito y han recibido formación, se coordinan directamente con el profesor para encontrar fechas y horas en las que acudir al aula.

FERIA DEL LIBRO: La próxima semana, del 26 al 29 de febrero tendremos una Feria del Libro. Por favor, busque un correo electrónico separado con más mañana.

CLASES EXTRAESCOLARES – PRESERVANDO EL ARTE Nos complace presentar dos nuevas clases extraescolares que se impartirán en español. Literatura/Poesía serán los lunes, 3:40-4:40, empezando el 26 de febrero, y Manualidades serán los miércoles, 3:40-4:40, empezando el 21 de febrero. Ambas clases están abiertas a 3º-6º grado. Las clases serán sólo hasta la última semana de marzo.

Estas clases serán impartidas por voluntarios del nuevo BYU YServe Club-Preservando el Arte. Han elegido Canyon Crest, ya que somos una escuela de inmersión en español, para pilotar el programa en nuestro distrito.
