7. PTA ANNOUNCEMENTS

Please see the following from our PTA: Good morning! We are so excited and grateful for the support and sign ups we’ve already received. We are on track for such a great year. As a PTA, we are really working toward expanding the PTA community and getting more parents involved. The PTA is a great way to make friends, and make a difference for the kids at Canyon Crest. A few things to know:

-If you sign up for the PTA at the following link before the 23rd of August, you get a free Canyon Crest T-shirt! Signing up doesn’t mean you have to attend every meeting and activity. It is a way to stay connected and have a voice in decisions. Link: https://canyoncrest.givebacks.com/store/items/53284

-We’ve had more sign-ups for volunteer help than ever! We have a few more slots that need filling for some of our favorite activities and weeks. You do not have to be a PTA member to volunteer. You can sign up at the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C054EA8A82DA5F49-50476144-canyon?useFullSite=true#/

The more people that sign up, the less work it is for everyone! Also, consider being a room parent for your child’s classroom. It makes such a difference to teachers and isn’t a lot of work on our end. Email your teacher directly.

-As a welcome for the start of the year and so we have a chance to get to know each other, you are invited to a brunch tomorrow, Tuesday the 20th. (see flier below for address) This is a chance to get to know other parents and build community with our families. We’d love to have you, even if you’re not yet a part of the PTA.

8. POWERSCHOOL YEARLY UPDATES

If you have not completed your Yearly Update on PowerSchool, please do that as soon as you can. Students will not be able to access their Chromebooks until that is completed. Use the link here to log in: https://grades.provo.edu

9. BAGGIE BOOKS

If anyone is interested in being a volunteer to put together “Baggie Books,” please use the link below. If you have any questions, please reach out to Janae Lamb at janael@provo.edu.

10. SUPPORTING POSITIVE BEHAVIOR OUTCOMES

At Canyon Crest, we understand the importance of supporting students’ positive behavior outcomes. To this end, we have adopted the acronym of ROAR to educate our students on some of our core behavior values – Respect, Ownership, Attitude, Responsibility. To support our ROAR efforts, we have implemented the following:

-Weekly ROAR Lessons: Teachers instruct students on ROAR expectations such as respecting others’ property, showing support to peers, how to behave on the bus, how to behave at assemblies, etc.

-ROAR Cards: When teachers see a student showing ROAR behavior, they can give the student a ROAR Card as positive recognition. Students with ROAR cards have a chance to win weekly prizes to reward their ROAR behavior.

-ROAR Student of the Month: Every month, teachers select a student of the month that has demonstrated exemplary ROAR behavior. These students are rewarded either in an assembly or through video announcements and receive a pizza celebration.

-ROAR Visuals: We have ROAR visuals (e.g., posters) throughout the school to remind students of our ROAR values.

To supplement and support our ROAR efforts, some educators have expressed interest in teaching positive behavior outcomes using a district-approved curriculum, Second Step. If you are interested in learning more about Second Step or would like to come into the school to look at the curriculum, please contact our school social worker, Michael Blakey ( michaelbl@provo.edu).

Please reach out to our Administrative Assistant Sheliah Saluone at sheliahs@provo.edu for any questions.
