6. SAFE UT
SafeUT is a state-sponsored smartphone app that features a crisis chat and tip line to provide real-time crisis intervention and support for students and parents/guardians. You can learn more by going to www.safeut.org or by watching the video at the following link. Our school social worker, Michael Blakey, speaks with 4th – 6th grade classes each year about the SafeUT app. Please let Michael Blakey know if you have any questions ( michaelbl@provo.edu).

7. HEARING SCREENING
Our school’s Hearing Screenings will be on Thursday, September 19. Our district’s team will do hearing screenings for all K-3 students, special education students, and 4-6 students new to the school. Let our school’s speech language pathologist, Joy Smith, know if you have any questions ( joysm@provo.edu).
8. VISION SCREENING
From our school nurse: It has been estimated that as much as 80% of learning occurs visually. Currently, vision disorders are the 4th most common childhood disability in the United States with one in four children having an undiagnosed vision problem. Our school is committed to ensuring every student is healthy and ready to learn.
In support of our commitment to promote healthy learners, our school nurse along with trained volunteers will conduct school-wide distance vision screening the morning of Tuesday, SEPTEMBER 10, 2024. If your child wears glasses or contacts, please have them wear them the day of the screening.
A child’s vision can change as they grow, therefore it is important that students receive regular screenings to identify those that might need to be seen by an eye care professional.
Early detection and treatment of a vision problem is critical to your child’s educational success, health and wellbeing. You will be notified if your student does not pass the vision screening after the rescreening process.
Although school screenings are important, a comprehensive eye exam by an optometrist or ophthalmologist is the gold standard.
If you do not want your child to participate, complete the opt-out form (access below) and return it to your child’s teacher before Tuesday, SEPTEMBER 10, 2024. We look forward to ensuring every child is healthy and ready to learn. Please let our school nurse, Necia Bess, know if you have any questions ( nbess@provo.edu).
