Provo City School District

Canyon Crest Elementary School

Canyon Crest Parents/Guardians,

Please see the following weekly announcements.

1. PEER REQUEST DLI CLASSES

We acknowledge that students enjoy being with friends, including in a learning environment.  To that end, we ask that you select between three (3) to five (5) peers who your child would like to be in class with next school year (2024-2025).  This must be submitted via Google Form by Friday, May 3 at 4:00pm.

Please note the following: We do not guarantee that your child will be with all three (3) to five (5) peers requested. We will do our best to ensure your child will be in the same class with at least one (1) peer requested. You must fill out a separate Peer Request form for each child at Canyon Crest. This form only applies for Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program students. There are many considerations that go into creating classes for next school year – balancing academic needs, behavior needs, unique learning needs (e.g., students with individualized education programs, 504 plans, language development needs), etc.  We appreciate your understanding of this complexity. If for some reason there are any peers your child should not be in the same class with next school year due to extenuating circumstances, you must email this information to Sheliah Saluone by Friday, May 3 at 4:00pm (sheliahs@provo.edu).

2. CONSTRUCTION COMMUNITY MEETING

The school district will be hosting four informational meetings to share and discuss construction and facilities information with the community.  Each meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. on the following dates: Wednesday, May 1 @ Centennial Middle School Monday, May 6 @ Dixon Middle School Wednesday, May 15 @ Timpview High School Thursday, May 16 @ Provo High School

3. EMERGENCY KITS

We are updating some of the supplies in the teacher’s emergency kits that are in each classroom. Please review the available items needed at the link below to sign up. Bring donations to the main office by May 10th. Thank you!

  • 11:20 – 12:05 – Grades 1 and 2

  • 12:50 – 1:20 – Whole School
  • 1:20 – Event Ends

Lunch Schedule

  • 10:15am – Grades 5 and 6 (will bring lunch outside to booths)
  • 10:45am – Grade 1
  • 11:00am – Grade 2
  • 11:15am – Grade 3
  • 11:30am – Kindergarten
  • 11:45am – Grade 4

Please note the following as the operations for this event will be a little different than in previous years.

  1. We have assigned blocks of time (45 minutes) for grade levels to participate in the various activities for the event.  One of the reasons for having assigned blocks of time per grade level is to ensure all students have access to the many different activities.  In the past, when all grade levels were outside at the same time, older students would jump the line in front of younger students, preventing younger students from getting to all the activities they wanted to.  This adjustment will allow all students to participate without barriers.
  2. Students will eat lunch and have inside recess so there is no interference with the grade level who has an assigned block of time forDiade los Niños.
  3. Dia de los Niños is such a wonderful celebration that promotes positive school culture.  We want to have a whole-school-feel to this event so we have created an additional 30-minute block from 12:50pm – 1:20pm for all students to be together and celebrate with one another (dancing, activities, etc.).
  4. We welcome parents who want to join and celebrate with us.  Parents can eat lunch with their child in the cafeteria and be outside for theDiade los Niños festivities.  If you have more than one child and have a situation where some of your children are in the cafeteria and others are participating in the event at the same time, please contact Sheliah Saluone and she can explain various options so you can be with all your children – sheliahs@provo.edu.
  5. It is our intent to provide this great opportunity to Canyon Crest students only.  Older siblings in middle school and high school are not invited.  Additionally, all visitors will need their driver’s license to gain access to the building for safety and security purposes.

Thank you to our Spanish DLI teachers for preparing and planning such a wonderful Dia de los Niños event!  We are excited to celebrate!  Please let Sheliah Saluone know if you have any questions – sheliahs@provo.edu.
