Canyon Crest Parents/Guardians,
Christine Whatcott has been announced as the new assistant principal intern at Canyon Crest Elementary School starting next school year. She will be replacing our current facilitator, Deanna Lee, who has been appointed as assistant principal at Lakeview Elementary School. Deanna will continue at Canyon Crest until the end of the school year.
We are excited for Christine to join the Canyon Crest community! She comes to us with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Christine spent 22 years as a classroom teacher at Wasatch Elementary where she was awarded teacher of the year twice and recognized as a Utah Valley Educator of the Week by the Daily Herald. At Wasatch, she served as grade level team lead, professional development coordinator, teacher specialist (art, math, literacy), and served as a participant on various school, district, and state committees (community council, leadership team, data team, standards review, curriculum adoption, etc.).
Christine has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Teaching and Learning with an emphasis in Literacy Instruction, both from BYU. Additionally, she has a Master’s in Education Leadership from WGU. She has an endorsement in ESL, an endorsement in math, and is Nationally Board Certified as a Middle Generalist (Grades 3-8).
Most recently, Christine has spent the past 4 years working at the district office as the English Language Arts and Dual Language Immersion Curriculum Specialist, where her primary focus was to support teachers and students across the district with literacy instruction and dual language immersion programming.
Christine and her husband Cameron have 5 children and (as of last week) a new grandbaby. Christine says, “We have loved living and raising our kids in the Provo community. In our free time, we are usually found cheering on our kids in their various activities.”
Christine has expressed to me her excitement for the opportunity to join the Canyon Crest team and serve the parents and students in our community. I am confident that Christine will add immeasurable and incredible value to student learning, school culture, and schoolwide systems.
Welcome, Christine!
Best,
Dr. Sean Edwards
